Boy Scouts Arroyo District Leadership Gala
Four motivated Boy Scouts from MMA Troop 22 volunteered their services to perform as the ceremonial color guard for the Boy Scouts Arroyo District Leadership Gala that took place at the Harlingen Cultural Arts Center on Thursday evening, May 17th, 2012. Though all Troop 22 Scouts were offered the opportunity to participate in a public display of Boy Scouts leadership, Zachary Garner, Christopher Dunn, Cole Warwick, and Nicholas Beall stepped-up and accepted the honor. Their presentation of the colors and following meal prayer (as led by the Troop Chaplain Christopher Dunn) was noteworthy. The boys then mingled among the audience, where they talked-up the benefits of Scouting and MMA. They were then forced to tackle a fine chicken cordon-bleu dinner with the guests. They did so with true Scout gusto! To paraphrase comments overheard from the audience about our Scouts; “A most impressive group of young men!” Afterwards, they were treated with a well deserved ice-cream dessert of choice at the local McDonalds, where they could be overheard discussing how the others, well, simply missed out. Good show guys!
Boy Scouts Recognize Dr. Mohun
During the ceremony, the Rio Grande Council recognized Dr. Michael Mohun with a prestigious leadership award. Dr. Mohun earned Eagle Scout in 1971 with Troop 555 in Houston, Texas. He then completed his education and medical certifications over the next decade. He moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1995, and has served the medical/local community as a physician, director, and supervisor in various capacities. In 2011 he became a Vanguard-Valley Baptist Venture Board member. Dr. Mohun also serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop 68 in McAllen, Texas. A man of high accomplishment, Dr. Mohun epitomizes the words “Scout Leadership!” A worthier award recipient is not to be found.
