LEAD Complex Confidence Course
Maj Harold Compton
Marine Military Academy Confidence Course is the largest course on the LEAD Complex and consists of 13 events. The course is a real challenge to endurance and upper body strength. Although this course is a series of obstacles to negotiate, the purpose of this exercise is to develop confidence in each participant. The confidence developed is in their ability to handle the physical demands as well as the fear of heights that many initially face. Just like the
Obstacle Course, technique plays a large role in successfully running the Confidence Course.
The Confidence Course is modeled on a similar course located at Camp Bullis. Following a visit to Camp Bullis and taking photos of the course, work began on the course and was completed in time for Summer Camp 2008. The course contains more difficult events and is spaced out over a much larger area requiring more supervision on events by Academy staff personnel. All participants are required to undergo a detailed brief and demonstration on the proper running of the course prior to being allowed to run it.
Confidence Course Names!
In an almost humorous way the individual obstacles all have special names that give some insight to them, such as, the Dirty Name, The Stairway to Heaven, the Tough Nut and the Tough One. Participants that have completed the course have a special appreciation for the names!
