The Marine Military Academy Parents Organization hosted Spring Fling 2014 April 25-26. Each year, the parents of the cadets are invited to spend a weekend with their sons in warm and sunny South Texas and engage in the some of the same outdoor activities as their sons.

On April 25, all parents and siblings joined the cadets for morning colors at 8:20 a.m. After the national anthem, MMA announced the April Cadets of the Month.

At noon, the families of upperclassmen attended the Junior-Senior Ring Ceremony. At this event, the following cadets were presented with their MMA class ring: senior Falco Fematt Rodriguez of Monterrey, Mexico; junior Austin Finn of Humble, Texas; senior Samuel Fusaro of Bay City, Texas; senior James Hendricks of Henderson, Ky.; senior Mateo Hernandez Ramirez of Dallas; senior Brian Rodriguez of Sylmar, Calif.; junior Bryce Vallot of Erath, La.; senior Julian Vandamme of Panama City; senior Ivan Vidishev of Spring, Texas; and senior Shuai Ye of Beijing, China.

At 7 p.m., the music started to play and the dice began to roll at Casino Royale. At this family-friendly fundraiser, guests played casino games, bid on silent auction items or got a little footloose on the dance floor.

The morning of April 26, parents and siblings headed outdoors to the MMA Back 40 and took turns ziplining and rappelling. Two paintball tournaments also took place between the parents and cadets.

An annual event, Spring Fling is an opportunity for parents to bond with their sons – and release a little spring fever!
