MMA Key Club breaks 1,000 hours

On May 10, after 11 members finished assisting in Neighborhood Clean Sweep, the Marine Military Academy Key Club completed 1,000 hours of community service for the 2013-14 school year. That means from August to May this student service organization donated an average of 111 man hours per month to the Harlingen community and other surrounding areas.

The MMA Key Club was 85 members strong this year. Under the leadership of SgtMaj Ford Kinsley, it broke its previous high of 892 hours from the 2011-12 school year.

Over the past nine months, members of the MMA Key Club could be spotted helping at numerous community events. The club consistently supplied the muscle for many city programs, including Trash Off Day, Electronics Recycling Day, and Keep Harlingen Beautiful Adopt A Spot. It also helped generate the dollars at several non-profit fundraisers, such as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Muscular Dystrophy Association Make a Muscle Walk, and Humane Society of Harlingen Garage Sale.
