Sixty-four young men walked the stage at the 48th Annual MMA Commencement Exercises on May 24 in Yeckel auditorium. Michael Huang of Bellaire, Texas, was the valedictorian for the Class of 2014, and Dylan Che of Sugar Land, Texas was the salutatorian.

Jorge Fernando Ramírez Tubilla, Class of 1995, gave the guest speech. According to Ramírez Tubilla, a self-practice tax attorney based out of McAllen, Texas, and Chicago, MMA taught him how to succeed.

“Before MMA, I was weak. I lacked discipline. I had huge, but wasted potential,” he said. “MMA prepared my mind, body, and spirit to overcome anything life threw at me.  I can summarize what MMA taught me in one sentence: If you really give it all you have, you can do it.”

Ramírez Tubilla asked the graduates to do three things: thank the person who paid for their education at MMA; always conduct themselves so it reflects proudly on MMA, and pay their gift forward and donate to their school.

After listening to powerful commencement addresses by the valedictorian, salutatorian, and guest speaker, the 64 seniors were awarded their high school diploma. The event concluded with the traditional tossing of the covers.

Prior to the graduation ceremony, MMA held the Class of 2014 Graduation Parade. The entire MMA Corps of Cadets participated, and 32 cadets were honored with a military award.
