MMA celebrates 50 years of excellence at Birthday Ball

MMA's 50th Birthday Ball

Marine Military Academy celebrated 50 years of excellence at its 50th Birthday Ball Oct. 31. Though it was Halloween night, Birthday Ball attendees gladly traded their costumes for glamorous and formal attire.

Per tradition, the 50th Birthday Ball cake was carried in by the battalion staff and sliced by Superintendent Col R. Glenn Hill. The first piece of cake was served to Guest of Honor MSG Joseph Burkett, USA (Ret), Class of 1991. The second piece of cake was served to MMA’s youngest cadet, eighth-grader Fouad Torres Gonzalez of San Andres Cholula, Mexico.

The final highlight of the 50th Birthday Ball was the mother-and-son dance, which kicked off the dancing for the rest of the evening.

Each year, the ball celebrates MMA’s birthday (Sept. 9, 1965) and the Marine Corps birthday (Nov. 10, 1775.) As MMA turns 50, the Marine Corps turns 240 years old.
