Marine Military Academy honored nearly 100 heroes at the Veterans Day Parade Nov. 11. Just as impressive was the number of people of all ages who turned out to pay homage to its veterans.
During the parade’s pass in review, all veterans were asked to join Superintendent Col R. Glenn Hill and Reviewing Officer Captain David Miller III, Class of 2006, on the parade ground to be honored by the MMA Corps of Cadets.
In addition to the parade recognition, all of the veterans received appreciation gifts from the Harlingen Home School Association students and Troop 4138 Girl Scouts.
After the parade, MMA Boy Scouts Troop 22 held a retirement ceremony for dozens of tattered and/or faded U.S. flags behind the Iwo Jima Monument.
All those present were asked to take a strip of a U.S. flag and place it in a stone pit. Many children who had never seen a proper flag retirement ceremony were especially engaged in this event.
