{"id":785,"date":"2012-01-11T09:47:26","date_gmt":"2012-01-11T15:47:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/wordpress\/?p=785"},"modified":"2014-10-16T15:17:02","modified_gmt":"2014-10-16T20:17:02","slug":"marine-military-academy-activities-part-ii-rock-climbing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/785\/marine-military-academy-activities-part-ii-rock-climbing\/","title":{"rendered":"Activities: Part II, Rock Climbing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Marine Military Academy Rock Climbing<\/h1>\n<p><em>Maj Harold Compton<\/em><\/p>\n<h1>Rock Climbing Background<\/h1>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/climbing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-788\" title=\"climbing\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/climbing-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"rock climbing\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/climbing-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/climbing.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><b>Rock climbing<\/b> began as an activity at the Marine Military Academy in 1999 under the supervision of GySgt Raul Garcia,\u00a0 a lifelong climber.\u00a0 The original <i>rock climbing<\/i> wall was installed on the north side wall of the Academy tower and was a flat 30&#8242; X 12&#8242; climbing surface.\u00a0 Over the next several years the tower had <u>rock climbing<\/u> walls added to the east and west walls and an overhang added to the north wall which was increased to 30&#8242; X 24&#8242;.\u00a0\u00a0 Maj Harold Compton began working as an assistant to GySgt Garcia and the Rock Climbing activity grew to an average of 12-14 cadets each year.\u00a0 Maj.
