{"id":6733,"date":"2012-09-02T14:04:02","date_gmt":"2012-09-02T19:04:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.info\/wordpress\/?p=6733"},"modified":"2014-10-16T15:11:22","modified_gmt":"2014-10-16T20:11:22","slug":"plebe-training-part-iv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/6733\/plebe-training-part-iv\/","title":{"rendered":"Plebe Training, Part IV"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Plebe Training at Marine Military Academy Near Completion<\/h1>\n<p><em>Maj Harold Compton<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Plebe Training Saturday<\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/Military-Program\/Introductory-Program\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6741\" title=\"circuit1\" alt=\"plebe training\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/circuit1-300x222.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/circuit1-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/circuit1.jpg 607w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><b>Plebe training<\/b><\/a> reached the end of the third week with a full weekend of events.\u00a0 Following a hearty breakfast, Saturday morning saw the plebes on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/?p=319\">LEAD Complex <\/a>to take on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/?p=357\">Circuit Course <\/a>and Low\u00a0Ropes events.\u00a0 SgtMaj Kinsley provided a briefing on the circuit course with cadet instructors providing demonstration of each event. The circuit course is composed of 14 exercise stations and a 1\/3 mile track.\u00a0 The course includes such exercises as pullups, dips, crunches, military press and curl, situps and several others.\u00a0 Plebes will conduct each exercise for a designated period, normally 20-30 seconds and then quickly move to the next.\u00a0 This continues until all exercises have been done and a lap is run.\u00a0 After a cool down period of 5 minutes the plebes return to the course for a second session and another cool down lap.\u00a0 The course really challenges the plebes and by the time the second session is completed you can see the look of exhaustion on their faces.<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wall2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6812\" title=\"wall\" alt=\"plebe training\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wall2-300x237.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wall2-300x237.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/wall2.jpg 575w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following completion of the circuit course, <i>plebe training<\/i> moved onto the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/?p=349\">low ropes course<\/a>.\u00a0 Plebes would be taking on several of the low event this morning including, Island\/Bridging, Criss Cross, Whale Watcher, the Wall, the Balance Beam and the Nitro Crossing.\u00a0 Each of these events tests the plebes abilities in problem solving and fostering teamwork between members.\u00a0 These are some of the more fun events even though there is a problem to solve.\u00a0 Plebes demonstrated exceptional ability to solve each of the problems posed and had some fun in doing it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/pugil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6815\" title=\"pugil\" alt=\"plebe training\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/pugil-300x232.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/pugil-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/pugil.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><u>Plebe training<\/u> completed its Saturday routine on the LEAD Complex with the plebes taking on Pugil Sticks.\u00a0 Pugil sticks pits one cadet\u00a0against another in a mock fight using padded sticks.\u00a0 Each plebe wears head, neck\u00a0and groin protection and each bout is closely supervised by a trained staff member to ensure no plebe is injured. Saturday afternoon plebe training included preparation for Drill Evaluation to be held on Sunday and a chance to kick back and enjoy a movie at the Academy theater.\u00a0 Following their evening meal the plebes were half finished with their last weekend of training and could enjoy a good nights rest.<\/p>\n<p>Read about Saturday&#8217;s <a Sunday<\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/aframr1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium (max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/><\/a>Plebe training kicked off Sunday morning\u00a0with the Drill Evaluation held on the parking lot adjacent to Yeckel Auditorium.\u00a0 Here each company would have its plebe execute a drill sequence being graded by the Commandant of Cadet, SgtMaj Kinsley.\u00a0 This showed how well each plebe had mastered the skill of close order drill and the performance by all the companies rivaled that found by active duty military personnel.\u00a0 Well done plebes!<\/p>\n<p>Sunday afternoon saw the\u00a0plebes back on the LEAD Complex for their last event here during their four weeks of training.\u00a0 This would be their Back 40 games which consisted of the A-Frame Shuffle, Landing Pads, Tire Swing, Islands and\u00a0Triangle Traverse\u00a0.\u00a0 The plebes were broken down into groups of about 15-16 each and after receiving a brief on each event began running the events.\u00a0\u00a0 Each group spent about 20 minutes at each station and then moved on to the next until all stations had been run.\u00a0 All of these events are designed to require teamwork between the plebes to successfully complete them.\u00a0 Each event provides them with a problem which they must figure out the solution to and execute.\u00a0 Plebes demonstrated an exceptional ability to work together as a team to complete each event.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to check out all
