{"id":4034,"date":"2012-04-19T20:21:36","date_gmt":"2012-04-20T01:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.info\/wordpress\/?p=4034"},"modified":"2014-10-16T15:26:08","modified_gmt":"2014-10-16T20:26:08","slug":"lead-complex-upgrades-201","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/4034\/lead-complex-upgrades-201\/","title":{"rendered":"LEAD Complex Upgrades 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>LEAD Complex Receives Upgrades for Summer Camp<\/h1>\n<p><em>Maj Harold Compton<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/summer-camp-mma.com\/\">Summer Camp<\/a> quickly approaching a flurry of activity is underway on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/?p=319\">MMA <b>LEAD Complex<\/b><\/a>.\u00a0 The <i>LEAD Complex<\/i> provides the bulk of summer camper activity throughout the four week program and each year an attempt is made to add a new\u00a0event.\u00a0 This year is no different as two new events will be completed in time for summer camp and several events will receive upgrades.<\/p>\n<h2>LEAD Complex New Events<\/h2>\n<h3>Rope Bridging:<\/h3>\n<p>During the summer of 2011 a series of telephone poles were installed to provide a training station for rope bridging.\u00a0 This was utilized by the US Army Cadet Leadership Camp in June and found to be very popular event however some modifications to the event were needed.\u00a0 The Rope Bridge event is a series of telephone poles approximately 50 feet apart\u00a0spanning a depression in the ground to simulate a ravine or body of water. \u00a0During the course of this school year the event was improved by the addition of 1 1\/2 feet of dirt to the surrounding area to provide for a deeper simulated\u00a0ditch to span and installation of ground anchors to secure the poles from leaning over time.\u00a0 Rope bridging\u00a0is planned to\u00a0be included in the summer camp program this coming summer\u00a0.\u00a0 Camper will be instructed on proper techniques for securing ropes, tensioning of the rope and the technique for crossing over the bridge.\u00a0 This event will significantly add to the <u>LEAD Complex<\/u>, not only by providing a new event but also by ensuring that summer campers fill every minute with worthwhile and valuable outdoor activities.<\/p>\n<h3>Tire Swing:<\/h3>\n<p>The next new event will be the addition of a tire swing crossing to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/?p=349\">Low Ropes Course<\/a>.\u00a0 This event will be located on the southeast corner of the LEAD Complex near the current High Ropes Course.\u00a0 The event will be series of 4 or 5 tires suspended from a cable spanning a distance of 24 feet.\u00a0 Campers will climb onto a low stand to reach the first tire and will then move from one tire to the next without touching the ground until they reach a low stand on the far side of the event.\u00a0 This event replaces an older inclined rope that has not been used in several years and had been retired from use on the LEAD Complex.\u00a0 The Tire Swing is considered a Low Challenge event as the participants are never more than 1 to 2 feet off the ground.<\/p>\n<h3>LEAD Complex Upgrades<\/h3>\n<h3>Zipline:<\/h3>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/lead-complex1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4166\" title=\"lead complex1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/lead-complex1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"lead complex\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/lead-complex1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/lead-complex1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mma-tx.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/lead-complex1.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>On Wednesday, 17 April Maj Compton and GySgt Garcia took on the task of replacing the zipline cable.\u00a0 This required a 30&#8242;
