Plebe Training 2012-13

Plebe Training 2012-13 underway at Marine Military Academy

plebe trainingPlebe training got underway immediately following administrative processing for new cadets on August 11 and will continue until their graduation and induction into the Corps of Cadets on September 8.

Their first weekend was filled with learning how to properly wear uniforms, how to set up wall lockers, close order drill and a variety of other subjects to get them settled in and perform the most basic tasks. By Monday morning they looked like cadets and when questioned, it was obvious they had been instructed on the proper way to address staff members. It was also obvious that they were ready to move on to the next phase of their plebe training.

Over the next several weeks, the plebes will be receiving a number of additional classes, take on the courses on the LEAD Complex, refine their skill in close order drill — all while beginning their academic classes! Plebe training is not an easy period for the new cadets, but it is an important transition for them to become members of the Corps of Cadets and provides them with the knowledge they will need to navigate through the next year smoothly. Their plebe training will be a seven-day-a-week routine until plebe graduation, at which time parents will have the opportunity to see the changes in their sons over that period.

Plebe Training Schedule

During the first week of plebe training, the new cadets will also be attending their regular classes beginning Aug. 15. They will also attend their first day with their chosen activity.

On Aug. 18 and 19, they will be introduced to the Obstacle Course and Confidence Course and will try out the COPE games. The following weekend will be their introduction to rappelling, ziplining and the high ropes. (Check back every Monday afternoon for an article on these events. MMA will also try to post photos of the plebes performing these activities.) Plebe training will wrap up with a graduation parade and ceremony on Sep. 8. If you are the parent of a plebe, be sure to mark the date on your calendar.

Plebe Training Parade and Graduation

Be sure to make plans to attend Plebe Training Parade and Graduation on Saturday, Sep. 8 at 10 a.m. on the MMA Parade Ground (in front of the Iwo Jima Monument). The Corps of Cadets will be providing visitors with a parade to honor the plebes and officially welcome them into the Corps of Cadets. Following the parade and ceremony, parents will be allowed to visit with their sons and tour the campus.
