MMA January 2022 President’s Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and a happy new year. Marine Military Academy (MMA) is open and preparing for an outstanding 2022. Soon the campus will be buzzing with activity with our new and returning Cadets. I am aware of the prevalent concern over the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Even down here in South Texas, we are seeing increases in new COVID-19 cases and our County has had its first confirmed case of the Omicron variant. Fortunately, the County has not placed any additional restrictions on schools in the County. Accordingly, MMA will be operating under as close to normal conditions as possible. The Cadets will be tested upon return to campus, and we will require masks indoors when social distancing is not possible for the first two weeks. Masks will be issued to all Cadets. We will continue with enhanced hygiene practices – handwashing and sanitation stations throughout campus. Cadets will be given further guidance from their individual athletic coach or activity director regarding masks and social distancing as per those league or activity requirements. Additionally, we will start our off-campus liberty for those qualifying Cadets on 22 January. I believe that these practices will provide our Cadets with the best opportunity for a safe and healthy semester. As provided last semester, after we have completed the initial mask-wearing requirement, masks will be voluntary for any Cadet wanting that extra protection.

Any questions regarding your son’s situation should be directed to his Drill Instructor. The military department has done an outstanding job managing their Cadets during this pandemic and they are eager to continue their outstanding training this semester. Our teaching staff and faculty are also excited to welcome back the Cadets for this semester of learning and study. Any questions regarding your son’s academic schedule should be directed to the teacher or faculty.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your most precious asset. I look forward to seeing the Cadets in action in the classroom and on the athletic field. I believe that 2022 will be our best year ever!

Respectfully,
