NewDay USA Foundation awards two MMA cadets with $15K scholarship

Coffey brothers will attend MMA thanks to Marine father’s service, bravery

NewDay USA Foundation presented two Marine Military Academy cadets with a $15,000 scholarship during morning colors Sept. 30.

Vice President of Scholarship Development Gary Morrison presented sophomore Cody Coffey of Liberty Hill, Texas, and his brother freshman Justin with a scholarship plaque certificate before the MMA Corps of Cadets. The brothers will each receive $15,000 in tuition assistance each school year so they can graduate from MMA.

The NewDay USA Foundation provides scholarships to children of disabled veterans who wish to attend a military school. The Coffey brothers were eligible and selected for assistance because their father SSgt Clifton Coffey is a 100-percent disabled Marine veteran.

SSgt Coffey was deployed to Iraq twice and suffered multiple wounds each time protecting his fellow Marines during ambushes.
