This is the new format for MMA’s What’s New. We have replaced our old static format with a new WordPress blog format. The new MMA News was created with the purpose of not only providing interesting articles about many of the things that go on here at the Marine Military Academy but more importantly to provide more detailed informatiion then you might find on our website about who we are, what we do and how we do it. Although you can find a wealth of information on our website about the Academy, this forum is a more informal way of providing an insight into every day events and activities, how we develop and nuture our student to better prepare them for the day they graduate. We hope that you find the posting informative and interesting and will become a regular reader of our site. You also have the capability of signing up for the RSS feed which will allow you to get content automatically whenever a new post is made.

The articles posts on MMA News are written by staff members at the Marine Military Academy. The following individuals have submitted articles thus far:
Maj. Harold Compton – Maj Compton came to the Academy in 1997 following his retirement from the Marine Corps and has served as the Director of Computer Services since that time. Maj. Compton has the additional duty as the Director of the LEAD Complex and is a certified Rappelmaster, High Ropes Course Director and Climbing Instructor. Maj Compton also has coached the MMA Rockclimbing Team since 2000. Maj Compton received his Bachelors in Business Administration from Rollins College, Winter Park, Fl.
Mr. Bill Hinkle – Former US Marine and has worked at the Marine Military Academy for the last 19 years. Mr. Hinkle is the Chief of Computer Services and also coaches the Academy Cross Country and Tennis Teams. Mr. Hinkle holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business Administration from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Mr. Joseph Palamara – Mr. Palamara serves as the Academy Assistant Dean and Counselor. Mr. Palamara, a native New Yorker, has spent the last 28 years in Texas. Following graduation from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology and sociology, Mr. Palamara taught for five years and completed his Masters in clinical psychology from Mary Hardin-Baylor. During his 25 years in public education, he taught psychology both at the secondary level and college level. For the past 15 years, Mr. Palamara has served as both a regular and special education counselor in school and hospital settings.
Mr. Chris Elliot - Mr. Elliot serves as the Academy Chaplain and Athletics Director.
Ms. Andi Atkinson – Ms. Atkinson serves MMA as the Director of Marketing & Public Relations. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and a Masters in Business Administration. In addition to giving her time to Troop 22, she also volunteers with her church, the Harlingen Jaycees, the Harlingen Amigas Lions Club, and KMBH public television and radio.
Ms. Robin Farris – Robin Farris has served as the college guidance counselor at MMA for almost 8 years, previously serving MMA as the Public Affairs Officer. She is a 1981 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. Mrs. Farris is a member of NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counseling) TACAC – (Texas Association of College Admissions Counseling) SACAC (Southern Association of College Admissions Counseling). She has traveled extensively across the United States visiting college campuses, learning about their programs and admissions policies, as well as networking with other counselors and admissions officers in order to introduce the cadets to college campuses they might not be familiar with.
Michele Pickens - Michele (Mickie) Pickens has been teaching English at MMA for 34 years and added SAT Prep in the last six of those years. She has Secondary Certification and a Masters degree in English from Stephen F. Austin State University.
SgtMaj James Poe- Sergeant Major Poe entered active duty in the United States Marine Corps on August 27th, 1970. His career spanned 30 years, during which time he served in a number of worldwide duty assignments ranging from aircraft maintenance and management, instructor duty, 3 recruiting tours, service with a reserve combat engineer unit, and as a Battalion Landing Team Sergeant Major. He retired from active service on September 1st, 2000 and came to the Marine Military Academy where he is employed as a recruiter. SgtMaj Poe has been the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 22 since his arrival and writes the Troop 22 News articles.
