Troop 22 NEWS: Fire Safety Merit Badge

Fire Safety Merit Badge Wrap-up!

Troop 22 Boy Scout completed the final requirements to earn the Fire Safety Merit Badge. In this segment we discussed the proper way fuel a lawnmower and other devises requiring liquid fuel. The boys learned about proper ventilation and safety concerns for such tasks. We then discussed the real cost of outdoor and wildland fires to a community and our nation as a whole.

Scouts then engaged in a demonstration of how to properly connect a propane camping stove and lantern. A few mistakes were uncovered and corrected. They learned about lighting procedures, and how to set up a campsite that is safe from fire. We discussed several fire safety related career opportunities, and the physical and educational requirements. A very productive meeting, it must be said! We expect quite a large number of boys to accept the merit badge at the Court of Honor in December.

In Other News – Life Scout Cody Hubbard is on a steady track towards completion of his Eagle Scout Leadership  Service Project. He’s recruited a team to assist after school and on weekends. They are near completion in constructing artificial bat habitats to benefit the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Hubbard is doing a fine job leading his team! The final product is impressive. More news will follow as we take the habitats out to the wilderness area for permanent installation.
