MMA will hold its 47th Annual Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m. in the Colonel Philip J. Yeckel Memorial Auditorium.

Over 25 families participated in "Spring Fling" Family Weekend, held April 26 and 27.

Forty-one alumni returned to their former home and alma mater for the 2013 MMA Alumni Reunion on April 19 and 20.

An MMA cadet ranked first in his region at the 4th Annual Youth Physical Fitness Test (YPF). Freshman José Tancredi Charur of San Antonio earned a perfect score of 500.

The MMA CyberPatriot team won first place in its division at the CyberPatriot V National Championship, held March 14-16 in National Harbor, Md.

The MMA drill team beat out 17 other teams and won first place in Exhibition Drill at the Rio Grande Valley Skills Competition on Feb. 9.

Sixteen World War II veterans turned out for the Iwo Jima Parade on Feb. 19. This year marked the 68th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima.

For the second year in a row, the MMA boxing team took first place in the Sub-Novice class at the 2013 RGV Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament on Feb. 16 in Brownsville.

Frank Gansz, Jr., the assistant/special teams football coach for Southern Methodist University (SMU), addressed the Corps of Cadets at the annual MMA Leadership Forum on Feb. 15.

LtCol James “Jim” Armstrong, a Marine fighter pilot in World War II and the Korean War, dedicated his aviation display to the Iwo Jima Museum, located on the Marine Military Academy (MMA) campus, on Feb. 15.

MMA held its Introductory Training Parade & Graduation on Feb. 9. Twenty-eight new students, also known as “plebes,” officially graduated from their four-week introductory training and become official members of the MMA Corps of Cadets.

Six MMA cadets recently earned their private pilot certificate on Jan. 10, making it the largest group of cadets to ever earn their private pilot certificate at the same time.

For the first time, the CyberPatriot team at MMA will advance to the CyberPatriot national championship. The team, known as the Devil Dogs, will head to National Harbor, Md., to compete against 13 other schools March 14-16.

For his Eagle Scout Leadership Project, Senior Nick Bailey of Houston donated a seven-piece patio set valued at $2,000 to a South Texas refugee shelter on Dec. 15.

So that all local children have a present to unwrap on Christmas Day, MMA is holding a “Toys for Tots” toy drive until Wednesday, Dec. 19. While shopping for loved ones and friends, MMA reminds everyone to be a Secret Santa and purchase a toy for a needy child.

MMA celebrated its 47th birthday during Parent's Weekend, held Nov. 2 and 3.

MMA will host its Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. on the MMA Parade Grounds. Veterans from all branches are encouraged to attend, as they will be honored at the event and asked to join the MMA superintendent for the pass in review. MMA’s battalion-size parades are always held in front of the historic Iwo Jima Monument, a symbol of American pride for veterans, Marines and civilians.

Beginning Thursday, Nov. 1, parents from around the world will gather at MMA for Parent's Weekend 2012. Held each year, Parent's Weekend is a time for parents to visit their sons and witness their personal growth and/or success at MMA.

Former NFL player Rich Garza spoke to the MMA Corps of Cadets on Oct. 9 in Yeckel Auditorium. Garza, an offensive lineman who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos in the early 1980s, told the cadets to make positive life choices.

Twenty MMA cadets were inducted into the National Honor Society on Sept. 19.

MMA received the 2012 National Yearbook Program of Excellence Award from Jostens for its 2011-12 Pass in Review.

Senior Nicholas Hamblin of San Antonio will have his poem, “He Walks in the Darkness but Never Alone,” published in a student poetry book. Published by The America Library of Poetry, the book titled “Talented” is to be released in early December.

MMA checked in 206 cadets the weekend of August 11 and 12, officially kicking off the 2012-13 school year. The cadets – who come from 27 states and nine countries – will begin school on Wednesday, Aug. 15.

MMA graduated a record high of 360 summer campers at the MMA Summer Camp Parade and Graduation Ceremony on July 28. Accordingly, a record crowd of at least 700 people, mostly parents and siblings, came to Harlingen to watch the campers graduate from their four-week journey.

To help preserve memories for campers and parents alike, MMA staff took hundreds of photos and tried to capture as many campers as possible.

Diego Medina of Camp Pendleton, Calif., won the “MMA Summer Camp Salute!” scholarship at Marine Military Academy (MMA) and was able to experience MMA Summer Camp for free

MMA received the Vocational Service Award from the Rotary Club of Harlingen on June 28.
