Our Commitment to Spiritual Values
It is the goal of the Marine Military Academy to offer the opportunity for each and every cadet to develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. To aid in the total development of the person the Military Staff includes a chaplain with whom lies the responsibility of conducting, facilitating, and overseeing all religious programs both on the Academy campus and in the local Harlingen area.
On campus voluntary religious opportunities are provided throughout the week. These opportunities are held at times during the day that don’t conflict with other cadet responsibilities so as to allow maximum impact on the corps of cadets. On Monday evening The Fellowship of Christian Athletes local Huddle meets. FCA is an informal, cadet led Bible study that uses the medium of athletics to challenge cadets. On Thursday evening a non-denominational Bible study meets. This study is formal and is meant for those cadets that desire to dig deep into the Bible to glean applicable nuggets of truth.
On Wednesday evening the entire Corps of Cadets is volunteered to attend VESPERS. VESPERS is a non-sectarian, ecumenical religious service that is led by or done under the direction of the chaplain of cadets. During this time, through the use of biblically and morally based teaching, cadets are challenged and encouraged in the area of personal integrity.
Off campus religious opportunities are also made available for cadets to further their education and spiritual maturity. They include but are not limited to a Jewish Synagogue, an Islamic Center, several Catholic Churches, and all the major Protestant denominations. The Academy also works closely with all of the local churches to provide the opportunity for any interested cadets to pursue their confirmation studies.
The Religious Program at the Academy currently is involved in two annual projects. The first is the Adopt-A-Highway-Program. This program allows cadets associated with FCA to participate in community service multiple times throughout the year as they pick-up trash along the Academy’s posted two-mile stretch of highway. The second is the Children’s Christmas Party. This program is hosted at the Academy and invites underprivileged children from several local children’s homes along with the children from the Academy’s staff to attend a great evening of food, gifts, and fun.
