The Campus

The Campus

"... a wholesome, patriotic, and invigorating atmosphere in which students are inspired towards maximum achievement."

The Marine Military Academy is a 142-acre campus, located in South Texas. The campus is almost a self-contained community with academic facilities, housing, dining, medical support, recreational and athletic facilities and its own maintenance section. A number of key staff and faculty members along with all drill instructors and their families live on campus. In addition to it's academic buildings the campus includes an obstacle course, a high ropes challenge course, circuit course, mud course, confidence course, paint ball course, a rappelling tower, rock climbing wall, speed-march reaction course, and facilities for football, track, swimming, basketball, baseball, boxing, soccer, and tennis. The original full-sized Iwo Jima Monument created by noted sculptor Felix de Weldon is on campus.

Academy buildings include a Museum and Gift Shop, the Peacher Hall Cadet Activities Center, which contains a great hall, game rooms, computer room, movie theater which seats 135 and offices of the Director, Support Activities and the Staff Duty Officer, the Neuhaus Dining Facility, which seats the entire Corps of Cadets at each meal, the William Hill Cocke Administration Building, and Belle Blaschke Hall which houses the language and social sciences departments. Tom T. East Hall houses the mathematics and science departments. Coleman Hall, which houses offices for the academic and military departments, the English and General Services departments, the College Placement office, SAT prep room and Computer Services. Philip Yeckel Auditorium which seats over 1000 and Harold James Memorial Library, which has about 18,000 books.

King Gymnasium is a fully equipped athletic center and houses a weight room, racquetball courts, basketball court, locker and shower rooms and offices of the Athletics Department. Three tennis courts, adjacent to King Gym, were completed in 1989. An indoor/outdoor rifle range was completed in 1982 and is used by the school rifle and pistol team. Bowman Stadium, where all home football games are played, was built in 1982 and an AAU-certified track was added in 1997. Munn Hull opened in 1994 and houses the bandhall, medical department, quartermaster, barber shop, tailor shop and mailroom. Housing for the President, Dean, Commandant of Cadets, Academy Sergeant Major, Drill Instructors and eight additional staff personnel are located on the campus.

Cadets are billeted in six, two story barracks with two Cadets to a room and two rooms sharing a bathroom. Each barracks contains an apartment where the drill instructor and his family live.
