Curriculum and Graduation Requirements

The Marine Military Academy is a college preparatory school. We require a student to earn 26 academic credits to graduate. The credits must include: four english credits; four mathematics credits; four science credits; three-and-half social science credits; two foreign language credits; with a half-credit in computer science, health, keyboarding, speech, SAT prep, and fine arts.

Advanced Placement

Students enrolled in AP level courses can earn college credit and stand out in the college admissions process. AP courses are the most rigorous course work offered by MMA. A student participating in the program must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence. AP course work is taught at the college-level and involve more work than standard classes. In order to earn college credit, a student must earn a specific score on the College Board administered AP exam.

Dual Enrollment

Through an agreement with University of Texas Brownsville (UTB), MMA is able to provide those Cadets with the aptitude and motivation the opportunity to earn college credit in each of the six academic departments. This opportunity will make it possible for a Cadet to earn over 18 hours of college credit under certain circumstances. Please contact the Dean's office for specific information on this unique program.

Honors Courses

Honors courses have been developed by MMA to meet the needs of talented students. An Honors course parallels the curriculum offered in a regular class but is more challenging. Honors courses cover topics in greater depth and are faster paced than regular courses.

Class Rank - Weighted Averages

Cumulative GPA's and class ranks are computed after the sixth, seventh and eighth semesters using a weighted average (an extra point is awarded for dual-enrollment, honors and AP work). Only college preparatory course work is included in the calculations. The cumulative GPA equals the sum of all weighted points earned divided by the number of classes.
